Agshin Karimov: determined policy Aliyev Erdogan Shahbaz Sharif
The statements made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Lachin reveal one important point: the leaders are not only sharing their insights on regional and global issues, but also announcing a resolute trilateral policy to be pursued together.
This is a declaration of firm and principled stances in the trilateral format against hegemonies that cause harmful effects on the world order. The rise of the Azerbaijan-Turkiye-Pakistan alliance emphasizes a defense strategy aimed at changing the artificial geopolitical currents in the region and neutralizing the dominance of global governance institutions. In other words, the Baku-Ankara-Islamabad triangle is transforming into a platform that plays a key role not only in one region — the South Caucasus — but also in Eurasian geopolitics as a whole.
The fact that these messages were delivered from Lachin carries special significance; beyond being symbolic, it allows recognition of the military efforts of Azerbaijan-Turkiye-Pakistan in possible future threats. Should any source of threat emerge against Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, including the Eastern Zangazur region, the military components of the Baku-Ankara-Islamabad alliance will demonstrate their advantages in combat operations.
The arrival of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Lachin aboard a plane of his country’s air force also speaks volumes in this regard.
Powers wishing to participate in cooperation models in the region must take pages from the strategic book of Azerbaijan-Turkiye-Pakistan. Moreover, the rapidly deepening and unprecedented changes in the growing relations of all three countries with China — which has become central in the new global order — create a mechanism that enhances flexibility and preventive measures.
As can be seen, the cooperation among Baku, Ankara, and Islamabad carries significance in limiting ambitions in the region and balancing global geopolitical rivalry.
In the prospect, an open approach towards other states interested in joining this platform may also be observed. This shows that the Azerbaijan-Turkiye-Pakistan cooperation can serve not only among the three countries but also as a basis for broader regional and international integration.
Most likely, the Azerbaijan-Turkiye-Pakistan alliance will attract the attention of major powers shaping Eurasian geopolitics, such as the United Kingdom and China, stimulating new formulas for cooperation.
Agshin Karimov
